Bengaluru, 27 July
Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike
(BBMP) has launched a mobile application called "Fix Pothole" to
address the persistent road potholes in the City. According to a BBMP press
release, the app uses GPS to pinpoint potholes on roads under the BBMP’s
jurisdiction accurately.
It records the pothole’s latitude
and longitude, measures its size, and generates a specific order for its
repair. This system ensures transparency in pothole identification and repair,
allowing for effective monitoring and control over repair costs by the
authorities.
Bengaluru boasts a vast road
network spanning approximately 12,878 km, with 1,344.84 km of arterial and
sub-arterial roads and 11,533.16 km of zonal roads. The City’s streets,
frequently dug up for BESCOM cables, water supply and drainage pipes, GAIL gas
pipes, high-capacity KPTCL cables, and OFC cables, often develop potholes.
In the fiscal year 2024-25, the
corporation has allocated Rs 15 lakh per ward for 225 wards, totalling Rs 33.75
crore for pothole repairs. The public can track the status of repairs via SMS
updates, ensuring no manual intervention. Additionally, the public can use the
app to report potholes. The app, available in Kannada and English, requires
users to enter their mobile number and OTP for authentication. After filing a
complaint, users receive a complaint number and can track the repair status.
The app is available for Android devices and can be downloaded from the Google
Play Store.
