BENGALURU, 27 JULY
A day after the chaos at Bengaluru
railway station over a large shipment of meat, Karnataka Food Safety and
Standards Department on Saturday said samples of the animal meat found in the
parcels have been sent to the laboratory for analysis. Legal action will follow
based on the analysis report.
The consignment, weighing about
three tonnes and loaded in cartons, arrived from Jaipur by train on Friday
night. Tension arose when self-styled cow vigilantes claimed it was dog meat.
However, Abdul Razzaq, the meat dealer who ordered the consignment, refuted the
charge, stating it was sheep meat.
Food Safety and Standard Authority
Commissionerate said, "The police department and officials from the Food
Safety and Standards Department visited the railway station on Friday for an
investigation.”
During the inspection, they found
90 parcels of animal meat being loaded into a transport vehicle outside the
station. Samples were collected for laboratory analysis to determine the
species of animals. Food Safety and Standards Authority of India licences of
the senders and recipients are also being reviewed, and legal actions will be
taken if discrepancies are found, it said. -PTI
