Bengaluru, 9 July

A Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) bus travelling from Koramangala depot towards Shivaji Nagar narrowly avoided disaster on Tuesday after the vehicle caught fire near the MG Road signal. Due to the quick thinking of the bus driver Rajkumar all 30 passengers onboard escaped unharmed.

The incident took place around 9 am when the bus came to a halt at the traffic signal. Upon restarting the bus, Rajkumar noticed smoke emanating from the engine compartment. He immediately attempted to douse the flames with water but was unsuccessful.

Rajkumar evacuated all 30 passengers through the back door due to which there were no casualties. Once everyone was safely off the bus, he promptly alerted the fire department. Firefighters arrived at the scene and extinguished the blaze.

The fire did not spread to surrounding vehicles as traffic had cleared after the signal change. The cause of the fire is still under investigation by BMTC officials. Salar News
