BENGALURU, 11 JUNE

City parks will now remain open from 5am to 10pm giving uninterrupted access to the citizens. This action comes after BBMP received complaints that public parks under it are not available to the citizens at any time of the day as many working officials have different timings.

Deputy Chief Minister and Bengaluru Development Minister DK Shivakumar, who is also in charge of City’s Development, on Tuesday scrapped the earlier timings of the parks which were open from 5am to 10am and from 1:30pm to 8pm.

Bengaluru boasts more than 1,200 public parks and the new extended hours will apply to parks under Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) jurisdiction. To enhance the safety of the parks, Shivakumar announced a helpline number to report complaints and assured that measures are in place to prevent "illegal or unwanted" activities in parks, with cameras installed at entry and exit points. The Bengaluru Development Minister appealed to the public to report any illegal or unwanted activities via call at 080 22660000, 22221188 and via WhatsApp at 9480685700. —Salar News
