BENGALURU, 13 MAY
The Bengaluru Metro Green Line from
Nagasandra to Madavara 3.7 kilometre stretch to be back on track by the end of
July. The project faced numerous delays and was initially slated to be done by
August 2019.
Speaking Salar News, a BMRCL
official said that the project was stalled by the pandemic and a dispute with
Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprises (NICE).
When BMRCL approached to NICE for a
630 meter stretch of land which is owned by them at a rent of Rs 5.75 lakh per
month, they were initially ignored. The dispute was eventually resolved with a
payment of Rs. 67.65 lakh by the BMRCL. The project further faced delays in the
month of March due to labour shortage as many had travelled to their
home-towns.
Currently the tracks for the trains
have been laid and painting works inside the stations, granite stone laying,
and electrical and signalling system installations are still going on. “We have
planned to finish all these works by June and after the trial runs and
inspection by the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS), the line will be
open to the public by the end of July.” said a BMRCL official.
The extension of the line leads to
Manjunath Nagar, Chikkabidarakallu, and Madavara and the total cost of the
project reaches Rs. 298 crore. The BMRCL also has constructed 3 kilometres of
new roads to provide better accessibility to Anchepalya village and its
surrounding areas from the metro station.
The opening of this extension line
will significantly benefit commuters traveling to the Bangalore International
Exhibition Centre and residents of Madanayakanahalli, Makali villages, and
Nelamangala, bringing them within a convenient 6 kilometres of City.
In addition to this extension, the
yellow line for the metro is all set to be launched in December 2024. This 19
kilometre line will be connected from RV Road to Bommasandra through driverless
trains. A total of 14 train sets, equipped with Communication-Based Train
Control is scheduled to arrive from August 2024 onwards. Salar News
