No hike in property tax, says BBMP Commissioner

The Chief Commissioner of Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), Tushar Girinath, has clarified that there will be no increase in property tax under the jurisdiction of BBMP. The clarification comes in response to viral videos on social media claiming an impending hike in property tax from 1 April. Girinath labelled these claims as "fake" and urged the public not to be misled by such news.

 

In a press statement, he noted that the property tax rates set in 2016 remain unchanged and will continue to be in effect. He also stated that legal action will be taken against those responsible for spreading false information about property tax.

 

Taking it to X, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar said, “It has been brought to my notice that fake news peddlers are peddling fake news on social media regarding the increase in property tax rate by the BBMP from 1 April, 2024.I would like to clear the air here for Bengaluru residents that BBMP has not hiked any property tax, which will continue to be levied at the same rate as was prescribed in 2016.Please do not believe any rumors regarding the same.”
