BENGALURU, 13 MARCH

The eight-lane signal-free corridor at Okalipuram junction, which was aimed at easing the bottleneck faced by residents of Rajajinagar and Vijayanagar to reach Majestic, was inaugurated on Wednesday without the project being fully completed.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar and AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge inaugurated the Rs 356 crore project, which includes land acquisition cost by Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP).

As part of the eight-lane project, one-way flyovers each from Rajajinagar and Malleshwaram to Krantivira Sangolli Rayanna Bengaluru Railway Station, an underpass beneath Bengaluru-Tumakuru railway track and a pedestrian flyover were inaugurated. However, the construction of these two flyovers and the underpass were not completed.

Besides, two underpasses under Bengaluru-Chennai line are also under progress. Once the project is completed, the traffic movement from Majestic to Rajajinagar and to the main gain gate of the railway station will be easier.

For vehicular movement, four concrete boxes under Chennai- Bengaluru railway line and four boxes under Tumakuru-Bengaluru railway line were placed. Traffic allowed from the underpass at Bengaluru-Tumakuru railway line helps vehicles reach the KSR railway station from both front and back entries.

A 15-foot bronze statue of former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi built at a cost of Rs 2.6 crore was installed at Rajiv Junction Circle in Seshadripuram. -Salar News
