BENGALURU, 27 FEB
Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation
Limited (BMRCL) has started training and cultivating sensitivity among its
security personnel after a security guard was terminated for denying entry to a
farmer due to his attire.
Security personnel will receive
training on professional conduct and communication which will equip them with
the skills to interact respectfully and professionally with all passengers,
regardless of their background or appearance, identifying and addressing
discriminatory behaviour, and ensuring fair treatment of all passengers
regardless of their attire or appearance.
"We recognise that our security
personnel play a vital role in ensuring the safety and security of our
passengers. It is crucial that they are equipped with the necessary skills and
understanding to handle diverse situations and interact with passengers in a
professional and respectful manner. The security guards are already provided
with routine training every day before their duty begins, and this additional
training will prevent any such incidents from happening in the future,” a
senior official of BMRCL told Salar News.
The BMRCL also plans to establish a
dedicated grievance redressal mechanism (helpline) where passengers can report
any instances of discriminatory behaviour by security personnel.
The PRO said: “We are deeply sorry for the inconvenience caused and are committed to learning from this experience. We have outlined a series of initiatives aimed at enhancing their staff’s understanding of public service and anti-discrimination policies.”
