First driverless metro train reaches Bengaluru

BENGALURU, 14 FEB

 

The much-anticipated first driverless metro train arrived at the Hebbagodi Depot on Hosur Road, on Wednesday. The train will operate on the Yellow Line of the BMRCL from RV Road to Electronic City via Silk Board.

 

The train and coaches are built by a Chinese firm, CRRC Nanjing Puzhen Co Ltd.

 

According to the BMRCL Public Relations Officer (PRO), Shrivas the project was initiated in 2019 and had faced setbacks due to the pandemic and complexities in manufacturing.

 

This prototype is a Communication Based Train Control (CBTC) and it represents a significant milestone for the Electronics City Metro project and paves the way for a more advanced and efficient public transportation system in the City.

 

Yashvanth Chavan, Chief PRO of BMRCL, told Salar News “The assembling and test runs will take up to 5-6 months to be done. Only after proper testing and the approval of the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS), we can be sure of the operation.”

 

While challenges remain before the train takes passengers, its arrival marks a significant step forward for Bengaluru's public transportation infrastructure.
