Roses get pricey as romantics get set for V-Day

Each stem of roses now costs up to Rs 50-70 depending on the sizes. This year, a bunch of 20 roses will be costing around Rs. 160-170.

Owing to the increase in production of roses in Hosur in neighbouring Tamil Nadu  has in a way paved way for the rise in prices of the  flowers. Each stem of roses now  costs up to Rs 50-70 depending on the sizes.  This year, a bunch of 20 roses will be costing around Rs. 160-170.

 

The flowers which are in demand most from Hosur are the Taj Mahal Rose, Kohinoor roses, Damask rose, and even Chrysanthemums.Taj Roses are known for their bright red in colour.

 

On Valentine's Day, a bunch of 20 flowers is being sold for Rs 800, with each long-stem rose retailing at Rs 60, which is double the average price.

An official from Tanflora, a floriculture project in Hosur in neighbouring Tamil Nadu, emphasised on the technology of drone cultivation as well. They basically use drones to survey the fields and see the growth rate of the plants. “The rose production this year is far better than any other previous years. The demands kept pouring in and the export rates have increased by 30 per cent compared to last year. This time our fields produced around 100 million rose stems and we exported around 30 million across India.” he added.

 

The Hosur-Bengaluru region is known as the "Valentine's Day rose capital of India." Every year, millions of roses are grown here specifically for the holiday. Beyond the romance, Valentine's Day rose production plays a vital role in the local economy. Farmers witness a significant income boost during this period.

 

Glitter roses & black roses
