A 30-year-old Indian woman was found murdered in Toronto, with police issuing a warrant for a suspect on charges of first-degree murder.

The victim has been identified as Himanshi Khurana, Toronto Police Service said in a release on Monday.

Police located her body on Saturday at a residence, a day after a missing person report was filed from the Strachan Avenue and Wellington Street West area, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation reported.

Investigators have named 32-year-old Abdul Ghafoori, also a Toronto resident, as the suspect and issued a warrant for his arrest for first-degree murder, police said.

The Indian High Commission in Toronto expressed shock and deep sorrow over the incident, describing it as “tragic” and “disturbing”.

“We are deeply saddened and shocked by the murder of Ms Himanshi Khurana,” the High Commission said, extending condolences to her family. It added that it is closely following the case and will continue to support the family as the investigation progresses.
