Eric Trump has accused New York mayor elect Zohran Mamdani of “hating Indian people” and wanting to arrest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, escalating political tensions ahead of Mamdani’s swearing-in on 1 January 2026.

Speaking in an interview, Eric called Mamdani a “socialist” and “communist” and alleged that he “hates Jews” and wants to “defund law enforcement”. “There is no place in the world that can compete against New York City, and yet you have a socialist, communist, however you want to label this, who wants to arrest Netanyahu, hates Jews, hates Indian population, wants to defund law enforcement. You know what that’s going to cost. It’s so sad,” he said.

Eric, who is executive vice-president of the Trump Organisation, said the new mayor should instead “focus on safe streets, clean streets and reasonable taxes”.

Mamdani, a Democratic socialist, became New York City’s first Muslim mayor and its youngest in over a century after winning the election earlier this month. He has said he would arrest Netanyahu if he visited New York, citing the International Criminal Court’s arrest warrant issued in November 2024. “This is a city that believes in international law,” Mamdani told CNN.

He has repeatedly stated that he would honour the ICC warrant and arrest Netanyahu at the airport if he arrived in the city.
