A 68-year-old Punjabi businessman, Darshan Singh Sahsi, was shot dead outside his home in Abbotsford, British Columbia, on Monday morning, sending shockwaves through the local South Asian community.
Sahsi, originally from Rajgarh village near Doraha in Ludhiana, Punjab, was a prominent entrepreneur in the cloth recycling industry and served as president of Canam International, one of the world’s leading clothing recyclers.
According to police, the attack occurred as Sahsi was leaving for work. The assailant, waiting in a car near his residence, reportedly opened fire as Sahsi entered his vehicle. Despite immediate medical attention, he succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds on the spot.
The Abbotsford Police Department has launched an investigation and is examining whether the killing is linked to an alleged ransom case. Reports suggest Sahsi had received ransom calls in the past, which he had ignored. The investigation is ongoing, and no arrests have been made so far.
