The White House said
that the Norwegian Nobel Committee “proved they place politics over peace”
after Venezuelan Maria Corina Machado won the Peace Prize over US President
Donald Trump.
Trump campaigned aggressively for the Nobel Peace Prize,
claiming to have stopped at least eight wars – the latest being Israel and
Palestine – and receiving the backing of several leaders, including Pakistan
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and
even Russian President Vladimir Putin.
At the time of publishing, Trump had not commented on the
issue. However, the White House Director of Communications said that “Trump
will continue making peace deals, ending wars, and saving lives. He has the
heart of a humanitarian, and there will never be anyone like him who can move
mountains with the sheer force of his will.”
Putin, meanwhile, said that the Nobel committee often awards
the prize to those who did nothing for peace.
“The prestige of the prize has largely been lost,” he said.
However, noting that Trump’s work in the Middle East was commendable, he
remarked, “I don’t know if he was worthy or not”.
