Athens, 7 Oct

Speaking publicly for the first time after being released from an Israeli prison, Swedish activist Greta Thunberg said that the world must focus on the genocide in Gaza and not her treatment in captivity.

Thunberg, was among the 171 people deported by Israeli authorities to Greece and Slovakia after being detained for taking part in a Gaza-bound Global Sumud Flotilla.

“I can talk for a very long time about our mistreatment and abuses in our imprisonment, trust me,” Thunberg said after arriving in Athens’s airport. “But that is not the story. Let me be very clear: there is a genocide going on in front of our very eyes, a live-streamed genocide. No one has the privilege to say we are not aware of what's happening.”

“We cannot take our eyes away from Gaza, from all the places of the world that are suffering, living on the forefront of this business-as-usual system: Congo, Sudan, Afghanistan, Gaza and many, many more,” she added. "I will never comprehend how humans can be so evil.”

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump repeated that Thunberg should “go and see a doctor” for her “anger management problems”.

"She is just a troublemaker... she's no longer into the environment now,” he said. “She's so angry, she's so crazy.”

Thunberg responded on Instagram, quipping that it takes one to know one.
