Urban development minister Dr Yathindra Siddaramaiah on Sunday urged the ECI to scrap the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls as it has caused widespread disenfranchisement through bulk deletions, arbitrary additions, inadequate documentation, partisan instructions and unreasonable demands on citizens.
Yathindra said the process has impacted the nation's multi ethnic, multi-religious fabric. The ECI has made a mockery of democracy by the mass deletion of voters, especially Muslims. He also accused the Centre of a tacit understanding with the ECI in the mass removal of Muslim voters, as they are not its voters.
In Chamarajanagar, animal husbandry minister CS Puttrangashetty also called for the scrapping of SIR.
