Mysuru, 1 October
The Mangaluru Railway Area was officially handed over from the Palakkad Division to the Mysuru Division on Thursday midnight, despite opposition from the Keralam government, after the Centre’s decision in September.
Teams from the Mysuru Division will oversee the transition, according to a statement.
The Mysuru Division has put in place the necessary arrangements to ensure that train operations, maintenance activities, safety measures and other railway services continue smoothly without disruption under the new jurisdiction.
The Divisional Administration, along with branch officers and field staff, is also closely coordinating with personnel at various locations to ensure a seamless transition and efficient railway operations in the newly integrated area, the officer stated.
Now, the approach to Ullal station in Karnataka’s Dakshina Kannada would mark the northern boundary of Southern Railway. Mangaluru has for centuries been part of the Southern Railway Division, but that era is now officially over.
