Five people were injured, two critically, after an electric wire touched a DJ vehicle during a Ganesha idol immersion procession in Virajpet late on Friday night.

The critically injured, Basavaraju of Hubballi-Dharwad and another, were admitted to a Mysuru hospital. The other three were admitted to the district hospital in Madikeri.

The incident occurred as a procession of mantapas passed through the area, when the wire touched people on the DJ vehicle, causing a shock. Five fell unconscious and were rushed to the hospital, with two found unconscious on the spot.

A person’s clothes caught fire too. Police, led by Superintendent RN Bindumani, visited the spot, while MLA AS Ponnanna visited the hospital and spoke to doctors.
