A delegation of lawyers, led by Manoraj Rajeev - former Vice-President of the Mangaluru Bar Association – on Friday urged the Congress to establish a High Court bench in Mangaluru, similar to the ones in Dharwad and Kalaburagi. 

The delegation met Chief Minister DK Shivakumar submitted memorandums to him. 

Rajeev noted that the State Cabinet’s approval is needed before either a circuit or permanent bench could be established. 

The delegation also submitted a request seeking the sanction and timely release of funds required for the development and completion of judicial infrastructure in Dakshina Kannada district.

A separate memorandum was also submitted requesting the allotment of suitable government land in every taluk of Dakshina Kannada district for the construction of residential layouts for lawyers.

The delegation also submitted a memorandum to Home Minister Priyank Kharge and called for resolving the issues regarding the mobile signal jammer at the Mangaluru Central Prison.

Priyank later stated on X that the a joint technical survey has been conducted, and that the jammer strength has been configured “to ensure that they effectively serve their intended security purpose within the prison while minimising any unintended disruption to mobile connectivity in the surrounding areas”.
