Dharwad tehsildar Sachidananda Kuchanur was allegedly caught red-handed accepting Rs 50 lakh in cash by Lokayukta officials, authorities said. The operation followed a complaint from a land developer seeking rectification of land records at Yarikoppa. The developer, who owns about 33 acres, had approached the taluk office for removal of ‘kharab’ portions and subdivision of land.
The complaint stated Kuchanur demanded Rs 1 crore and one acre of land for the work. Lokayukta SP Siddalingappa explained, “So, when he was supposed to receive Rs 50 lakh, we trapped him.” The officials laid a trap near KCD Grounds, where Kuchanur was accepting a red bag containing cash, which he then placed in his own bag.
A case has been registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act, with investigations ongoing, including searches at his office and residences. Siddalingappa added, “Further action, including examination of his premises, would be decided subsequently.” The Lokayukta continues its probe into the matter.
