Kalaburagi prison chief suspended over ‘Bindas Life’ videos

The government has ordered a departmental inquiry, while Anita R has been shifted to the New Central Prison in Vijayapura during her suspension.

Kalaburagi, 6 September

Dr Anita R, the Chief Superintendent of Kalaburagi Central Prison, has been suspended over allegations of dereliction of duty in connection with videos titled ‘Prisoners’ Bindass Life,’ showing the activities of inmates at the central prison, that were circulated on various visual and social media platforms.

Director General of Police, Prisons and Correctional Services, Alok Kumar, issued an order in this regard. In accordance with the government order dated 3 September, a departmental inquiry has been ordered, and the suspension has been made effective immediately.

During the suspension period, Anita R’s headquarters have been shifted to the New Central Prison in Vijayapura. She was serving as the Chief Superintendent at the Prison Staff Training Institute in Mysuru. She has been relieved of that responsibility until further orders from the government and instructed to report to the New Central Prison in Vijayapura to serve her suspension period.

The case had sparked considerable discussion after videos related to the activities of inmates at Kalaburagi Central Prison began circulating on social and visual media platforms.
