RSS saved Kharge family, says BJP; Priyank hits back

Priyank Kharge hit back, saying the Kharge family was protected by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Sardar Patel and the Indian Army, not the RSS.

Asserting that the RSS doesn’t need to register to establish their existence, BJP National General Secretary (Organisation) BL Santhosh on Saturday said that it was the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh that fought the Razakars of Hyderabad and protected the Kharge family.

“I want to tell the Home Minister (Priyank Kharge): It was not your police, nor your ancestors. It was these RSS workers who confronted the Razakars,” Santhosh claimed an ‘Akhand Bharat Sankalp Day’ programme organised by the Hindu Jagarana Vedike in Bengaluru.

Santhosh also said, “LoP in Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge’s family faced attacks of the Razakars of Hyderabad and fled to Gulbarga (now Kalaburagi). It was the RSS workers who confronted those Razakars”.

Addressing Priyank, Santosh claimed, “Your family had to flee the village, and your father (Mallikarjun Kharge) had to flee with only the clothes he was wearing”.

The Razakars were a paramilitary force that aimed to preserve the Nizam’s rule during Partition.

“At that time too, the RSS was not registered, and it is not registered even today,” Santosh said.

Santosh’s comments come as the Congress government has tabled the Karnataka Regulation of Use of Government Premises and Public Property Bill, 2026 which seeks to regulate the use of government premises and public property by private individuals, organisations, associations and societies.

Santosh also said that a decline in Hindu population in India would lead to an increase in anti-national sentiment, while also renewing the call for “Akhand Bharat” (undivided India).

“Israel brought Jews from across the world back to their homeland and developed their country,” he said.

Priyank, however, hit back.

“The RSS did not come to protect us. The people of our region were protected by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Sardar Patel and the Indian Army,” Priyank said at a press conference in Kalaburagi. ““You claimed that you protected the Kharge family. After Partition, so many communal riots erupted. In which communal riot did you protect and help?”
