The BJP and Kannada organisations claimed that the Congress government began releasing water from the Krishnaraja Sagar (KRS) reservoir in Mandya district to Tamil Nadu around midnight on Saturday. But Water Resource  Minister N Chaluvarayaswamy refuted the charges, saying that “No water has been released from the KRS Dam for Tamil Nadu.”

The allegations come after the Cauvery Water Management Authority on 12 August directed Karnataka to release 12,000 cusecs of water daily to Tamil Nadu. 

Condemning the reported discharge, Kannada Chalavali Vatal Paksha leader Vatal Nagaraj accused the administration of secretly releasing water while suppressing public dissent. Alleging a political understanding between the Karnataka CM and Tamil Nadu CM.

Nagaraj announced that his organisation will march from Bengaluru within two days to lay siege to the KRS dam.

Meanwhile, local farmers led by Nanjundegowda of the Bhoomithayi Horata Samiti protested by wading into the river at the Srirangapatna bathing ghat and shouted slogans against the State government. 

Notably, Chaluvarayaswamy said ”Around 10,000 cusecs is being released from Kabini. Seepage water is also reaching Tamil Nadu.”
