In a shocking incident
that took place in Mataki Tanda of Aland taluk on Tuesday, a man triggered an
explosive device tied to his waist on suspicion of his wife having an
adulterous relationship, killing himself and his own daughter instantaneously.
The deceased have been
identified as Shivalal Baliram Rathod, 49, and his daughter Veera, 15.
Shivalal's wife
Savita, 40, son Prakash, 19, and relatives Surekha Chavan, 30, and her son
Vivek, 12, were seriously injured in the incident. They are under treatment at
Kalaburagi District Hospital, police said.
According to police
sources, Shivalal and Savita had been fighting frequently over family matters
for many years. It is said that Savita, who was upset by this, was living at a
relative's house with her daughter and two sons.
Shivalal, who was
working in a stone quarry near Pune in Maharashtra, suspected his wife of
adultery. On Tuesday morning, he went to his relative's house and blew himself
up due to this, police sources said.
Shivlal Rathod's body
was torn to pieces due to the intensity of the explosion, and the walls of the
house and the surrounding area were damaged. The incident created an atmosphere
of anxiety in Tanda for some time.
Personnel from the
Aland police station visited the spot and are probing the source of the
explosive.
