Karnataka is set to get the country’s first dedicated ‘Constitution Bhavan,’ proposed by the Mandya Advocates’ Association, in Mandya City. The foundation stone for the ₹7-crore project is scheduled to be laid on 20 July.

Minister and Belagavi district in-charge minister Satish Jarkiholi said the government had released an initial grant of ₹3 crore. 

The building will have a G+4 structure and will be designed in the shape of a book, symbolising the Constitution. The first floor will house a Constitution gallery showcasing books and literature in Kannada and English on the making of the Constitution. A 100-seat auditorium is planned on the second floor. The entrance will resemble a giant open book featuring the Preamble to the Constitution.

The Constitution gallery will showcase photographs, visual material and information on the Constituent Assembly and the process through which the Constitution was framed.

A BR Ambedkar Reading Room will also be established, housing law books and publications in Kannada and English related to the Constitution and its making.

Officials said the facility is intended to promote awareness of constitutional values such as equality, liberty and fundamental rights, and disseminate information on the Constitution and democratic principles.
