Chief Minister DK Shivakumar claimed there were no farmers among those participating in the BJP-JD(S) padayatra against the proposed Bidadi Township project, alleging it was aimed at securing the political future of JD(S) leader Nikhil Kumaraswamy.
Responding to reporters in Malur, Shivakumar said party workers had been brought from other constituencies, while acknowledging that protesting was a democratic right.
He said the government was only continuing a project initiated by JD(S), but had increased compensation from the proposed Rs 25 lakh to Rs 2.5-3 crore. On NICE, he said JD(S) leaders had signed off on both projects.
