Police took scores of Dalitha Sangarsha Samithi (DSS) activists into preventative custody in Mysuru when they attempted to set out on a ‘Go back Modi’ protest march, before the Prime Minister’s arrival in Mysuru on Saturday.

Hundreds of DSS activists, led by Edadore Mahadevaiah and others, convened at Manasagangotri Clock Tower circle, planning to head out on a protest march against the failure of the Modi government to keep his word of compensating the families of 21 students who died due to the NEET paper leak issue.

Although the police negotiated with DSS activists for more than an hour, the latter stuck to their demands. Anticipating disturbances to law and order during the high-profile VIP visit, police arrested DSS conveners Choranahalli Shivanna and Mahadevaiah, along with others, and took them to preventative custody.

Modi was attending the inauguration of the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Youth Centre (Viveka Smaraka), which the Sri Ramakrishna Ashrama constructed after demolishing the government-assisted Maharani’s New Type Model (NTM) School meant for girls’ education in the city.
