An FIR has been registered against Karnataka BJP MLC and former minister C.T. Ravi over alleged hate speech after he allegedly made derogatory and provocative remarks against the Muslim community during a speech on the ongoing NEET-UG protests.

The case was registered at the Chikkamagaluru Town Police Station based on a complaint filed by Jamia Committee president Mudassir Pasha. The complainant alleged that Ravi's speech during a "Youth for Nation" protest contained communal remarks that could promote enmity and disturb communal harmony.

The controversy stems from a speech in which Ravi questioned the presence of "mullahs" at the NEET-UG protests, asking what role they had in the agitation. His remarks drew criticism from several quarters, with complainants alleging that they attempted to give the student movement a communal colour.

The FIR has been registered under Section 353(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
