Belagavi, 7 June

Karnataka Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Satish Jarkiholi on Sunday said the Congress party's internal “one person, one post” policy was the key reason he was not given Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president post.

Speaking to reporters at his residence in Gokak, Jarkiholi, who was seen as the frontrunner for the top KPPC post, said he was content with his current portfolio allocation.

“The party follows a strict ‘one person, one post’ policy. Since I am already serving as a minister, I could not be entrusted with the responsibility of KPCC President. I have no grievance, and everyone in the party must abide by its rules,” he said.

Jarkiholi clarified that he had not sought any particular portfolio during the recent Cabinet reshuffle.

He said the party leadership and the Chief Minister had decided to retain him in the PWD, which he had been handling earlier.

“I am pleased to continue in the Public Works Department. It will help ensure the completion of projects that were initiated earlier,” he added.

Jarkiholi said several major road, bridge and infrastructure projects had been executed successfully over the past three years.

Responding to concerns over Belagavi district’s representation in the Cabinet, Jarkiholi noted that the reshuffle was not yet complete.

"Only the first list has been announced. Another list is expected, and Belagavi district is certain to receive additional representation. There is no question of sidelining a large district like Belagavi.”
