Karnataka youth dies of rabies after ignoring dog bite

Pradeep was bitten by a rabid dog at the Mannikeri Chandradevi Jatra but did not seek timely treatment or vaccination.

Bagalkot, 26 May


A 22-year-old man died while undergoing treatment at a district hospital, after allegedly failing to take timely anti-rabies vaccination following a dog bite incident.


The deceased has been identified as Pradeep Chandrashekhar Halerolli, a resident of Golasangi village in Nidagundi taluk of Vijayapura district.


According to sources, Pradeep had attended the “Mannikeri Chandradevi Jatra” held in Mannikeri village of Bilagi taluk in Bagalkote district last March.


During the event, he was reportedly bitten by a rabid dog. However, he allegedly ignored the incident and did not visit the hospital for proper treatment or vaccination.


Later, on 25 May, he was admitted to the Bagalkote District Hospital. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to the infection late at night while undergoing treatment.


The incident has created concern among the public and serves as a grim reminder of the importance of immediate vaccination and medical care after dog bites.


Health authorities have repeatedly issued warnings and awareness campaigns stressing that negligence in such cases can lead to death. 


Medical experts say that immediate treatment and anti-rabies vaccination are mandatory after such an incident.
