Kolar, 17 May

A father and his two sons drowned in a Krishi Honda (farm pond) in Kolar district on Sunday, as the tragedies seem unabated.

Srinivas, 45, went for a swim with his sons Chetan, 15, and Rajesh, 9, in a pond belonging to a resident at Nakkanahalli village under Masthi police station limits when the incident occurred.

Reports suggest that algae had formed on the sides of the polythene sheets in the pond, making it slippery and preventing them from getting out easily.

Notably, drowning cases in Krishi Hondas have been on the rise recently, with a rise in temperatures in the district making people feel the need to go for a swim, seeking respite from the heat.

Following the incident, Deputy Commissioner Dr MR Ravi instructed farmers to put up fencing around their ponds within a week.
