Kolar, 15 May
In an age
where nuclear families have become the norm, a remarkable household in Kolar is
keeping alive the spirit of togetherness and shared living. Popularly known as
the “Anur Family,” the household stands as a shining example of how a traditional joint family has risen to become one of the most prominent business families in
the region.
The
family, comprising 16 members, lives under one roof in a unique home
designed with 13 separate rooms for individual privacy, yet bound together by a
single large kitchen that serves as the heart of the household. Four brothers,
their wives and children reside together at Gowripet in Kolar, united not only
by blood ties but also by shared values and collective responsibility.
Their
success story is rooted in hard work and perseverance. It traces its beginnings
to 1970, when patriarch Sathyanarayana Setty started a modest hardware store on
the bustling Doddapet Road. Beginning with the sale of small hardware and
plumbing items, the business gradually expanded through the efforts of his four
sons — Nagaraj, Subramanyam, Lakshminarayana and Raghavendra.
Over the
past five decades, the family has built a formidable presence in Kolar’s
building materials sector, launching establishments across the city.
A WAY OF
LIFE
Speaking
about living in a large joint family, Subramanyam acknowledged that
misunderstandings do arise occasionally. However, all issues are resolved
through open discussions and mutual understanding, with the guidance of elder
brother Nagaraj.
For the
Anur Family, staying together is more than a tradition — it is a way of
life. The family believes that unity not
only strengthens emotional bonds but also contributes to collective prosperity.
Shared meals, they say, are a cherished daily ritual that reinforces their
sense of belonging and togetherness.
Nagaraj,
the eldest, is a BCom graduate and considered to be the guiding force behind
the business expansion. He oversees the group’s overall operations and future
investments.
Subramanyam,
the second, plays a key role in customer relations and public outreach. Lakshminarayana manages the flagship store
located at the site where the family’s business journey began, while the
youngest brother, Raghavendra, balances business responsibilities with the
daily needs of the household.
Behind the
smooth functioning of the family is Amrutha, the eldest daughter-in-law, who
leads the household management and kitchen operations with her co-sisters. Asha is a certified Yoga teacher, while
Prabha takes care of their newly established Ceramics business. The last
daughter-in-law, Sridevi, is a talented dancer who oversees domestic needs.
The
younger generation, too, is making strides in education and professional careers,
with one daughter qualifying as a Chartered Accountant. Two boys are assisting
their family’s business after completing their graduation, while others pursue
their education.
The Anur Family stands as proof that unity, mutual respect, and shared responsibility remain the foundation of enduring success.
