At least four people were killed in a pile-up involving a bus, a garlic-laden lorry, a car, and multiple two-wheelers near Danapur in Hosapete taluk of Vijayanagara district on Sunday morning, police said. At least twenty others were injured.
Eyewitnesses
said that a Haryana-registered lorry carrying garlic rammed into a car, a
government bus, and three bikes before overturning by the roadside.
The lorry
fell onto the car and dragged it for nearly 100 metres after the impact.
Preliminary
inquiry suggests the lorry driver was heading towards Chitradurga and was
driving at high speed, resulting in loss of control and a chain collision.
Rescue
operations are ongoing to clear the overturned vehicle and retrieve those
trapped. The injured have been shifted to government hospitals in Hospet and
Koppal for treatment. Vehicular movement on National Highway 50 is severely
affected, with traffic piling up for 3kms on both sides of the accident.
A case has been registered at Mariammanahalli Police Station.
