Yadgiri, 24 March

A case was registered at the Yadgiri rural police station on Monday against a woman and her two accomplices on charges of murdering a man and then trying to pass it off as a death due to an accident.

The deceased has been identified as Sagar Babu Rathod, 28, an auto driver from Chamanalli Tanda in the taluk.

Police stated that a case has been registered against Sagar’s wife, Pooja, for allegedly abetting the murder, and Reddy Balaram Rathod from the same locality and his friend Mahesh for committing the murder. An investigation is underway.

According to the complaint filed by the mother of the deceased, Reddy had been in an illicit relationship with Pooja for the past three to four years. Despite warnings and counselling through a local panchayat, they did not mend their ways.

Reddy continued to maintain close relations with Pooja, which led to frequent quarrels between Sagar and Reddy.

On Sunday evening, Sagar left for Yadgiri along with Mahesh in his auto. At around 9:30pm, when Pooja called him, he said he would return home late. When a relative called Mahesh over the phone, he reportedly said Sagar might have been drunk and not to search for him.

On Monday morning, Sagar’s body was found under suspicious circumstances by a roadside near the KEB Kalyana Mantapa on the Housalli (M) road with severe injuries on his head.

Superintendent of Police Prithvik Shankar and other officials rushed to the spot for investigation.

To cover up the murder, they overturned the car to make it appear as if it were a road accident. The FIR also alleges that Pooja abetted the crime, the police said.
