Serious allegations of sexual harassment have been levelled
against Inspector Sandesh BG of the Moodbidri police station, with multiple
complaints raising concerns over misconduct and prompting a call for a
high-level probe.
Three women from Mangaluru submitted separate complaints in
Bengaluru to the Chief Minister, Home Minister, Director General of Police,
Chief Secretary, and the State Women’s Commission, seeking a high-level
investigation into the matter.
The complaints said that they were forced to escalate the
matter to higher authorities after their earlier complaints to the Mangaluru
Police Commission failed to get any response.
According to one of the women, the inspector demanded sexual
favours in exchange for releasing her husband, who had been arrested in a case
two years ago.
He also demanded Rs 25 lakhs and threatened to open a rowdy
sheet against her husband if she did not comply.
The woman also alleged that the inspector trespassed into
her home at night and behaved inappropriately.
It is also claimed that he exhibited similar behaviour
during his tenure at the Belthangady police station and harassed women visiting
the station for official purposes, including passport verification.
