Two notorious burglars, who worked as sugarcane cutters during the day and committed house thefts at night, have been arrested by city police.
Gold ornaments weighing 67 grams, Rs 1.02 lakh in cash, and the motorcycle used in
the crimes—totalling Rs 12.14 lakh—have been seized, Police Commissioner
Sharanappa SD said.
The
accused are Appaji alias Appu Gangaram Chavhan, 22, of Kamsar Nayak Tanda, Aland
taluk, and Santosh alias Antya Govind Chavhan, 30, of Shakapur Tanda, Aland
taluk.
Veerabhadrayya Swamy from Veerendra Patil Layout had filed a complaint on 3 June last year, stating gold and cash worth Rs 4.35 lakh were stolen from his house.
Based on
this, police formed a special team led by DCP Praveen Naik, ACP Shivanagouda
Patil, and PI Khaja Hussain, who arrested the duo and recovered stolen property worth Rs 12.14 lakh.
The duo, relatives, targeted homes after daytime work to fund their expenses over two months, the police said. During the press conference, officers confirmed the arrests.
Helmets used to be mandatory from 1 February, first for police, then the public, to reduce motorcycle accident fatalities, said Police Commissioner Sharanappa SD.
