Dharwad, 27 Jan

As many as 15 people were injured after a suspected rabid dog attacked residents in Mishrikote village of Kalghatgi taluk in Dharwad district on Monday night.

According to police, the dog attacked people who were moving along the road, leaving several victims with serious injuries to their hands, legs and face. The injured were initially treated at the village Primary Health Centre, while some were shifted to hospitals in Hubballi for further medical care.

Villagers later managed to capture the dog, and a case has been registered at the Kalghatgi police station in connection with the incident.

The incident comes close on the heels of a similar attack on Sunday night in Bagalkot district, where stray dogs had attacked a group returning home after a function, injuring at least ten people, including children.

In another related incident last month, a motorcyclist in Athani town of Belagavi district crashed into a roadside house wall while attempting to escape from a chasing stray dog.
