Four people from Chitradurga were killed on the spot when their car collided head-on with a lorry on the Bidar–Srirangapatna State Highway near Hindasakatte village in Hiriyur taluk on Saturday, police said.


The deceased Vishwanath, 22, Nanjundi, 23, and Rahul, 23 were residents of the Nanjayyanakottige area in Chitradurga city. Yashwant, 22, was a resident of Megalakottige. The identities were confirmed by Chitradurga SP Ranjitkumar Bandaru.


Police, said the four were travelling from Mysuru side towards Hiriyur while the lorry was going towards Mysuru. The car had hit another car before it collided with the lorry.


The victims had gone to a nearby village for dinner and were returning to Chitradurga town when the mishap occurred. The car was completely crushed. “The impact was so severe that the car was mangled beyond recognition.


None of the occupants had any chance,” SP Bandaru said. The bodies were later shifted to the Hiriyur Government Hospital for post-mortem examination. Hiriyur Inspector Anand said the bodies were handed over to the families on Sunday after autopsies.
