A two-year-old boy was grievously injured after being attacked by a pack of stray dogs in Belagavi’s Azad Nagar area, hospital officials said on Tuesday.
The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon when the child, identified as Ahmed Ramiz Bisty, was playing in a narrow lane near his residence. Family members said seven to eight stray dogs suddenly surrounded him, dragging and biting him repeatedly.
Residents rushed to the spot after hearing the child’s cries, chased away the dogs and rescued him. He was immediately shifted to a private hospital in the city.
Doctors said the toddler sustained multiple severe injuries and is undergoing treatment. His condition is described as serious but stable.
The incident has triggered fear and anger among local residents, who alleged that the stray dog population in Belagavi and its surrounding areas has risen sharply in recent months.
They claimed civic authorities have failed to take effective steps to curb the menace despite repeated complaints
