Prevented from entering Belagavi district on Karnataka Rajyotsava day on 1 November to attend pro-Maharashtra black day events on Karnataka Rajyotsava day, Maharashtra Shiv Sena MP Dharyasheel Mane, who represents Hatakanagala, has moved a breach of privilege to Lok Sabha Speaker Omprakash Birla against Belagavi DC Mohammed
Roshan, saying that as an elected public representative, he has the right to go to any part of the country.
The district administration had banned Mane from entering the district on 1 November.
Mane submitted a complaint to Speaker Birla seeking the initiation of breach of privilege proceedings against Belagavi Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Roshan, alleging violation of his constitutional rights.
The MP met the Speaker in New Delhi and submitted a written complaint. In his complaint, Mane stated that the Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti (MES) and the Marathi-speaking people of Belagavi observe 1 November as “Black Day" to protest against not including the Marathi speaking areas in Karnataka in Maharashtra. On 1 November 1956 Belagavi was included in Karnataka.
The MP said the observance marks what they consider as an injustice done in 1956, when Belagavi and 865 other Marathi-speaking villages were merged with Karnataka.
