Bengaluru, 14 Dec
Cold conditions are intensifying across
Karnataka, with the Meteorological Department warning of a cold wave over the
next two days. Minimum temperatures are expected to drop sharply, with some
regions experiencing lows around 9°C.
An orange alert has been issued for Bidar,
Kalaburagi, Raichur, Yadgir, and Vijayapura districts, while a Yellow Alert is
in place for Hassan, Chikkaballapur, Davanagere, Shivamogga, Haveri, Ballari,
Gadag, Koppal, Bagalkote, Dharwad, and Belagavi. In these areas, minimum
temperatures may range between 9°C and 12°C.
Bengaluru itself is likely to record
temperatures between 12°C and 14°C. The cold wave is primarily attributed to
dry winds flowing into the state from North India. According to the
Meteorological Department, “the cold wave is likely to continue for the next
five days,” with Bidar recording the lowest at 7°C.
The IMD has also stated that severe cold winds are expected in the northern interior of the state over the next 48 hours, urging residents in Bidar, Bagalkot, Vijayapura, and Kalaburagi to exercise caution. Conditions are expected to ease slightly after 17 December.
