BELAGAVI, 14 Dec

A man attempted to kill his wife and five of her family members by pouring petrol and setting them afire at Telsang village in the Athani taluk of Belagavi district.

The incident occurred on 10 December after the woman, unable to bear harassment at her matrimonial home, had gone to her parental house without her husband’s consent.

Enraged by this, the accused, Bhima Bhosale, a resident of Yelihadalagi village in Athani taluk, went to his wife’s parental home and attacked those present.

Police said Bhima allegedly poured petrol on his wife Rani and five others and set them ablaze, accusing her family of taking his wife away despite his objections. All six victims suffered serious burns and are undergoing treatment at the Athani Government Hospital.

Belagavi Superintendent of Police Bhimashankar Guleed confirmed the incident. The injured are Sanju Salunke, Shankar Salunke, Krishna Salunke, Ankush Padatara and Manohar Padatara.
