BJP MP Yaduveer Krishnadutta Chamaraja Wadiyar on Sunday urged the State government to opt for a sustainable green developmental model for Mysuru’s expansion. He urged the government to consider Mysuru’s heritage and cultural significance.

Speaking at a seminar on the city's future, ‘Greater Mysore or Greater Vision – What Does Mysore Truly Need?’ held  at Bahadoor Institute of Management Services, Manasagangotri Campus, University of Mysore, he said that mere expansion of boundaries will not serve any purpose.

Renowned actor and public intellectual Prakash Belawadi cautioned against blindly replicating Bengaluru’s unplanned infrastructure model. He urged citizens to come together on a common platform to protect Mysore’s identity, rights, and long-term interests.

Hunsur MLA GD Harish Gowda spoke on the intricacies of urban planning and governance, highlighting that a coordinated approach among multiple government agencies is essential to translate the vision of Greater Mysore into reality.

Former chief secretary of state government Ravindra countered,  sharing valuable insights from his experience with Smart City projects and heritage conservation in Bengaluru, presenting practical examples and strategies that could be adapted effectively for Mysuru.

In his opening remarks, Dr Shushrutha Gowda, Neurologist and Founding Secretary of VR Trust, addressed the broader implications of the Greater Mysore concept. He emphasised that Mysuru’s growth must remain firmly rooted in its unique legacy and values.

Several NGO, environmentalists, activists, academicians, and progressive thinkers took part in the event alongside noted economist Prof KC Basavaraju.
