MYSURU, 7 Dec

The Catholic Association of Mysore ushered in the spirit of Christmas by organising the 21st Diocesan Carol Singing Competition at the St. Philomena’s College Indoor Stadium at Bannimantap here on Sunday.

The event began with a solemn Eucharistic Celebration by the Bishop of Mysore, the Most Rev. Dr Francis Serrao SJ.

The day-long competition was formally inaugurated by Bishop Serrao, who extended his blessings and Christmas greetings to all participants.

In his message, the Bishop said that God became man to dwell among humanity and elevate mankind to divinity. He reminded the gathering that humans are created in the image of God.

He hoped that the Babe of Bethlehem would bring hope, peace, love and happiness during Christmas and the year ahead.

Aroun 85 teams participated in five categories — schools (VIII to XII), colleges, parishes, professionals and institutional staff — singing carols in English, Kannada, and other languages.

Each team, ranging from eight to 45 members, was allotted six minutes to present their carols. Children also added to the festive atmosphere by depicting the birth of Jesus Christ.
