  • No toll for a road that’s not safe

Bidar, 3 Dec

The construction work on the Kamalnagar–Bidar National Highway (NH-50) is unscientific and still incomplete, yet preparations are already being made to start toll collection, said Aurad (B) MLA Prabhu B Chavan. This must be stopped immediately, the former minister said.

“The construction work, costing Rs 257 crore, was executed by Patel Infrastructure Pvt Ltd of Gujarat, and there have been numerous complaints about the work,” he said.

The road is filled with depressions, potholes, and large cracks throughout, he alleged.  Despite continuous repair works, there has been no improvement, he alleged. When one stretch is repaired, cracks appear in another.

Chavan claimed that the road is unscientific, causing accidents almost every day.

“I have brought this issue to the notice of the Central Government, the Chief Minister, ministers, and all concerned authorities. The Public Works Minister personally inspected the road and admitted that the construction is indeed of poor quality. Yet, no action has been taken so far,” he said.

He said that toll can only be collected if the Highway is in a proper condition. But since the road is incomplete and repair is never ending, toll collection should not be allowed.
