Karnataka: Toddler stuck in coracle on Kolar tank rescued

A three-year-old girl trapped in a water tank filled with bushes was safely rescued after a 2-hour operation by the Kolar Rural Police.

A three-year-old girl trapped in a water tank filled with bushes was safely rescued after a 2-hour operation by the Kolar Rural Police.

According to information reaching here, the child belonging to Chunchadenahalli village in Kolar taluk, was playing near a tank when she spotted a coracle nearby. The child got into the coracle and inadvertently sailed for about 500 meters into the water body after which the coracle got stuck in the bushes. The child’s mother who came looking for her spotted the child in the coracle in the middle of the tank and raised an alarm.


The villagers alerted the Kolar Rural police Inspector K Kantharaju who rushed to the spot immediately. After assessing the situation Kantharaju summoned an expert swimmer Nizamuddin of Sugatur and entrusted him with the task of rescuing the girl.

The 27-year-old Nizamuddin swam went into the tank and reached the coracle, but was unable to remove it from where it had got entangled into the bushes. Meanwhile, Nagappa Gowdappa Nandi, a constable attached to Kolar Emergency Services jumped into the tank and managed to untangled the coracle with the help of Nizamuddin and rescued the girl.
