Kolar, 12 Nov

The recounting of votes for the Malur Assembly constituency in Kolar district, conducted on Tuesday as per Supreme Court directions, concluded smoothly with no change in the results, Congress MLA KY Nanje Gowda said.

Speaking to reporters after the process, Nanje Gowda said his stand had been vindicated, adding that the recounting was conducted in accordance with constitutional provisions and that all objections were addressed properly.

The recounting was ordered by the Supreme Court following a petition filed by KS Manjunatha Gowda of the BJP, who had lost to Nanje Gowda by a narrow margin of 248 votes in the 2023 Assembly elections.

The exercise was held under tight security at the Horticulture University campus on the outskirts of Kolar, under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner and Returning Officer Ravi MR, along with Superintendent of Police B Nikhil. Both Nanje Gowda and petitioner Manjunatha Gowda, as well as independent candidate Hoodi Vijayakumar, were present.

Only authorised polling agents were permitted inside the counting centre, and the use of electronic devices was strictly prohibited. Prohibitory orders were also enforced around the venue until Wednesday morning.

The district administration will now submit the recounting report to the Supreme Court in a sealed cover.
