Uttara Kannada, 10 Nov

A Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) head constable was killed after a heavy iron gate collapsed on him at the Kaiga Atomic Power Station in Karnataka’s Uttara Kannada district on Saturday night, officials said.

District police chief Deepan MN confirmed the incident, saying a probe was underway with CISF and Kaiga plant officials.

The deceased, identified as Head Constable Shekhar Jagdale, 48, of Mahimanagar, Maharashtra, was on night duty at the nuclear waste management unit when the gate suddenly gave way, causing severe head injuries.

Fellow CISF personnel took him to the Primary Health Centre within the plant premises and later to KGS Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.

The accident has shocked staff at the high-security facility operated by the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) and sparked concerns over internal safety and maintenance standards.
