Karnataka Congress MLC Ramesh Babu has written to party leader Rahul Gandhi, asking him to urge the Central government to implement a menstrual leave policy for all women after the State government recently approved the same.

Attaching a Lok Sabha response from 24 March 2023 which said that there was no framework for such leaves, he said urged Gandhi to implement such a policy.

“Central Govt is not in favour of women to consider menstrual leave,” he wrote.

Babu said that if the such a policy was implemented nationwide, it would promote gender equality, acknowledge menstrual health as an essential component of workplace well-being and encourage private sector and other state governments to adopt similar compassionate measures.

“The Karnataka Government’s initiative sets an inspiring precedent,” he said.
