A 53-year-old woman teacher, Akthar Begum, went missing on Monday while conducting the Socio-Economic and Caste Survey in Kolar. According to sources in the Education Department, she left her Mahalakshmi Layout residence that morning without carrying the required survey kit.

Begum, an assistant teacher at KB Hosahalli near Narasapur, had been assigned survey work in Narasapur village. Officials said she had been under pressure due to the time-consuming nature of the survey.

Block Education Officer Radhamma said Begum’s husband is a retired employee and her daughter, an engineering graduate, works in Bengaluru. Radhamma and Kolar Tahsildar Dr Nayana met the family and assured them that all efforts are being made to trace the missing teacher.
